1) YA Lit Is Fun AND Challenging
YA Lit is often considered fun and entertaining, but not necessarily suitable for literary study. In reality, plenty of YA Lit presents complex emotional and intellectual prospects. READ MORE
2) Representation Matters
It can be really powerful to see representations of ourselves in literature. And it's even more powerful to be allowed (or invited) to read that literature in the classroom. READ MORE
3) YA Lit Builds Better Readers
Students are unlikely to read books they hate. But students are extremely likely to read books about things they are interested in, and characters they identify with (especially if the students get to help select the books). Like anything else, being a good reader is mostly a matter of practice. Letting kids choose YA Lit makes students more likely to practice reading. READ MORE
